Stone

The history and practice of stone carving and sculpting in Indonesia harks all the way to the stone age, where communities would create artistic structures and statues based on indigenous beliefs, and then later to represent Hindu and Buddhist teachings. As the archipelago is home to a variety of stones and materials to create these traditional arts, their forms and functions are just as varied based on the limitation of the medium and differing values of each community.
