FEDERICO TOMASI

Artworks

Contemporary artist mainly focused on portraiture

As an artist you feel that you always have to come out with something new, at the end, there’s also this feeling of letting go and really following the instinct that this is what I like to do.” For Italian artist, Federico Tomasi, painting portraits isn’t just what he likes to do: it’s an obsession. To him, the point of a portrait isn’t so much recreating the likeness of someone as it is about creating something that resonates with its viewer and serves as a timeless reminder of the person depicted from a certain point in time. Federico plays with light and shadows, to bring out subtle nuances behind each facial expression to make them truly captivating. One of the reasons Federico is obsessed with creating large portraits is its ability to draw and engulf viewers in a way that smaller artworks simply could not. As you look at his large portraits, you find your entire body falling into the painting – embraced by a particular gaze or expression. Federico strives to achieve this depth in his portraits through the use of layering, blending, and glazing to achieve a realistic and three-dimensional effect. Each painting has its own journey.
